DPS PUNE SCHOOL, A Benchmark !!!!!!
Posted by madhuriesingh on April 17, 2009
A critic’s critic is what I can be best described as
I have very high set of standards when it comes to kids, education, hygiene and anything to do with the tiny tots.
Since my younger son was happily going to a kindergarten school “Kider Brook” at Kalyani Nagar, I was a carefree mom with no tension of homework, timing was cool 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Next to my home a lane far to be precise
.
So when he completed his nursery and was time for Jr Kg, I was not gonna repeat the mistake of hanging on to a kindergarten , which I did for my elder son. Read my blog on St Mary’s for more.
So come november 2008 and I started checking the DPS website for the form to be downloaded for admissions.
I was glad to find it in the second week of the month. Downloaded the form and took the print-outs. It was a pleasure to the eyes and mind to see very clear, no nonsense form with only required information that was asked for to be filled in.
There were only two things that were needed to be arranged for the registration time read more…

And also can you throw some light on the parent’s interview stuff. What is that they want to know ?
One thing you mentioned about Highly-Educated, Non-Working mom. I have also heard they prefer US returned fathers ? Is it true ?
thanks a lot

Hi Madhuri
My son is studying in Nursery in Euro-Kids, so I guess there wouldn’t be any chance for St Mary’s as of now, as they don’t have a Lower KG.
I want to know what sort of test St Mary guys take for Senior KG (Prep) ? You mentioned some match the following stuff ? Can you kindly elaborate a bit about the tests?
thanks

Dear Pallavi,
Thanks:).
Kindly do not get tensed. It’s important issue but not an urgent issue, so chill.
First week of Nov i.e. 9th Nov 09, you can get admission form from the school. Check their site or check my site for updates.
I would advice you to give a search on DPS in my site and read all articles on DPS school. You will get most info you want. Same with ST Mary’s. St Mary’s boys admission will start in Jan last week 2010.
In case you are interested, I will be conducting a workshop for all those interested in admission for DPS in October 2009.
hopefully.
That should answer all your doubts.
There is currently no bus route to Vishrantwadi as far as I am aware. But there are buses going to Nagar Road and Viman Nagar, Shastri Nagar, you can chose the closest.
Keep in touch and relax.

Hi AParna
There’s nothing you shud be doing Aparna.
Relax and approach the schools with correctly filled application form and other requirements.
I was advised by the DPS principal to not coach my kid and scare him for the interview. And trust me I did not
! Though I kept bugging my hubby.
For St Mary’s my son’s play school Kider Brook at Kalyani Nagar, was doing its bit with match the following, alphabets and numbers etc. St Mary’s admission is a tough cookie to chew as only the best of best are filtered thru the kids’ tests and then parents’ interview. Thankfully my son did not make us feel and such pressure.
!!!!!!!
It is preferred if you are a highly educated yet non working mom
Mine was a conscious choice to be available for my kids as compared to work, but many do not have the liberty to do so.
Now coming to your 2 yrs old. Dps takes kids aged 3:5 yrs to 4.5 yrs in Nursery which is equivalent to Jr Kg. Also DPS is CO-ED plus CBSE.
St Mary’s do not have nursery or Jr Kg. They start with Preparatory = Sr Kg. St Mary’s Boy’s is all boys and ICSE.
So I guess you can admit him in any playschool till he is ready for Jr kg / Nursery. May be you can ask the playschools about previous admissions to these schools to give you more confidence. Primrose at Koregaon Park has pretty good record of ST Mary’s Admissions and so is Kider Brook at Kalyani Nagar.
Thanks for the comment and do post any other query if you have.
I personally do not believe in pressurising my kids for studies or anything they are unwilling now. I did a small checklist of observations and their likings and now know what they like or dislike in various arenas.
